10 Oct 26 – Bukit Gombak Park, Singapore

Happy October Big Day 2026!

Today is eBird’s October Big Day 2026 where all participants are encouraged to go out to birdwatch and submit a checklist. I will be doing that from my usual “backyard”, Bukit Gombak Park.

I had the pleasure of spotting a juvenile Tiger Shrike, one I had not seen here since 2023. The bird provided plenty of photographic opportunities for the day.

It wasn’t too skittish as long as I kept my distance. But the occasional passing jogger would spook it to another nearby tree.

As I was about to leave, I spot an Asian Brown Flycatcher. The bird was perched on a tree but since I was on higher ground, I was able to get some beautiful photos of the bird at eye-level.

I was hesitant to use eBird when I started birding because I thought it’d be a pain. I didn’t start until my 3rd year but am glad I did. eBird had definitely enhanced my birding experience by keeping track of which species I’ve seen.
